Headteacher's Welcome

It is my privilege, as Headteacher, to welcome you to Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi. We are a school with a strong sense of community, where a dedicated and enthusiastic team of staff works hard to make a lasting difference to the lives of our young people. I am proud that Estyn recognised our inclusive vision, caring environment and strong commitment to pupils’ well-being, as well as the positive and respectful relationships between staff and pupils that help create calm and productive classrooms.

Our work is underpinned by three core values: Respect, Pride and Responsibility. These values shape the way we learn, work and treat one another. We want every pupil to feel that they belong, that they are valued and that they will be treated with dignity, kindness and fairness. We teach pupils to respect themselves and others, take pride in their work and achievements, and accept responsibility for their learning, behaviour and future.

The well-being and safety of pupils are central to everything we do. Estyn recognised the school’s strong safeguarding culture and noted that nearly all pupils know where to seek help when they need it.

We provide a wide range of pastoral and specialist support, including effective provision for pupils with additional learning needs, trusted adults across the school and strong partnerships with external agencies. We aim to ensure that pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

Developing the Welsh language and strengthening the Welsh ethos of the school remain important priorities for staff and governors. Estyn recognised the notable progress made in promoting Welsh, including the work of the Uned Iaith, the introduction of a bilingual Year 7 stream and the increasing use of Welsh across school life. Our long-term ambition is to increase bilingual provision significantly and to ensure that pupils leave us with Welsh-language skills that will benefit their future education, employment and participation in Welsh society.

Above all, we want our pupils to be curious, ambitious and willing to embrace new opportunities. We encourage them to think critically, solve problems, work with others, take appropriate risks and learn from their experiences. Through the curriculum and the wider life of the school, we aim to help every pupil become adaptable, resilient and confident in an ever-changing world.

Starting a child’s journey through secondary school is an important step for every family. We look forward to working closely with you, listening to your views and supporting your child throughout their time with us. Together, we can help them make progress, discover their strengths and take full advantage of the many opportunities available at Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi.

We encourage our students to be curious and to embrace new opportunities for learning. We provide a
range of activities and opportunities for students to engage in sports, arts, and other activities that
promote their well-being. Our aim to cultivate students' creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving
skills. We provide opportunities for them to collaborate, innovate, and take risks, preparing them to be
adaptable and resilient in an ever-changing world.

Should you require further information or if you wish to arrange a visit, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school. We can always provide you with a tour of the school and meet some of our students so you can talk to them about their experiences.
